The West Rand District municipality is inviting young people to who are unemployed to take part in its workplace learning programme. Applicants should at least have N6 certificate acquired from FET college.

Programme Objectives

The aim of this work integrated programme is to provide participants with practical experience. The programme is motivated by government national effort to support skills development and thus creating jobs for South Africans.

EThekwini Municipality Career Programmes


EThekwini Municipality is committed to promoting and supporting access to quality and relevant integrated training interventions, career development and skills opportunities through a series of programmes. Some of the programmes that we offer are:

Experiential Learning

This is part of the schools educational programme where learners experience the world of work. It is short term ie. A five day placement of secondary school learners with employers. Learners are placed with employers to observe and learn – not to undertake activities which require training and expertise. This programme targets Grades 10 -12 learners.
In – Service Training 

This programme targets students who are currently studying and who are required to undertake practical’s to complete their qualification. Students benefit through gaining ‘real life’ work exposure for a period of 6-12 months. 


Work Experience 

Work experience placements are specifically designed for recently graduated, unemployed people who are between the ages of 18 -35, residing within the eThekwini Municipal area.


Internships

This programme is designed to assist graduates and/or post graduates who are required register with a professional body in order to practice their profession. Candidates must be between the ages of 18-35 and reside within the eThekwini Municipal area. 


Learnerships

A great way to gain valuable on the job experience. Our learnerships consist of a structured theoretical learning component and practical work experience and is designed to enable learners to navigate across diverse employment contexts. Our learnerships culminates in a qualification that is registered with SAQA. 

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships is a combination of theory learning and on the job training. This type of training can last from 2-4 years depending on the programme and provides you with an opportunity to earn while you learn. 


Student Bursaries (Loan Student Scheme) 

This scheme provides for the granting of bursaries in areas that include, but are not limited to Architects, Town Planners, Quantity Surveyors, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Land Surveyors and Professional Valuers.

To represent eThekwini Electricity during telephonic interaction with customers as a member of the Contact Centre, to ensure that the service offered continuously meets or exceeds customers' expectations by the provision of quality service.

Key Responsibility Areas


• Analyses, processes and co-ordinates information on the service interruption process.
• Receives requests or complaints from customers, captures relevant information on the
computer system using the appropriate software package to initiate the required action from
the LV Control staff.
• Process and conduct account operations and customer service information and actions.
• Provides the customer with relevant information which could include information/action on
eThekwini Electricity regulation, policies and procedures; eThekwini Electricity business; damages and claims; staff location and contact details; energy usage; tariffs; theft; unauthorised access to eThekwini Electricity sites and wrong/prank calls.
• Participates in and initiates continuous improvement oppurtunities by identifying system, process and customer problems, exceptions, needs and service improvement opportunities and reporting such to the Senior Agent or Superintendent.
• Represents eThekwini Electricity professionally during the interaction with the Call Centre.
• Handles calls according to quality services, Batho Pele principles, fault logging, standard
operating procedure and street lighting standard operating procedure.
• Transfers problematic calls from consumers to Supervisors as per consumer request or agent
not being able to handle a call.
• Closes the interaction when all necessary actions have been completed.

Essential Requirements

• An appropriate level of secondary education.
• 6 Months relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

• Matric/Grade 12.
• 12 Months relevant experience.

Coordinates sequences associated with the roads provision department,reading plans,contract documents,monitoring road works and drainage,and preparing reports/sketches and necessary correspondence/documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Co-ordinates the implementation of procedures and monitors Contractor/Teams to ensure compliance with standards and specifications for roads provisioning.
• Reading plans and contract documents and supervising work
• Preparation of all documents including reports, sketches and the amplification of
measurements
• Assist in the preparation of contract documentation

Essential Vacancy Requirements

• Qualified Artisan in a related trade.
• Valid motor vehicle drivers licence (Code EB)
• 5 Years experience as a General Foreman or Clerk of Works in a major road construction.

Preferred Vacancy Requirements

• National Technical Certificate (III).
Special Conditions:
Must be capable of:
- Reading Plans and contract documents
- Supervising road construction and drainage - Preparing reports and sketches
